Classroom: at the Farm Bureau

5554 Clayton Road, Room 4, Concord, California, U.S.A.

The Guild maintains a "for members only" classroom where numerous groups meet to quilt and share friendship.  We have a library with hundreds of books that are available for members to check out.  If you are not already part of a small group, please contact the hostess and find out more about the group.  You will find one that fits you well, or try some on for fit, or you can start your own group.  Just contact Glenna.

Each year's opportunity quilt is assembled and quilted here [All members are welcome to help.]
Monthly workshops for members are held here, generally on the 3rd Saturday of the month. [Prior sign-up is required.]
The classroom also provides tables for members to baste their quilts. [Call ahead to make arrangements.]

Quilts to Share Guidelines

"Quilts to Share" is the name given to our Guild's philanthropic program.  Quilts are made by members and then donated to local non-profit charities or organizations.  Quilts may be hand tied or machine quilted.  Sizes will vary depending on charities or organization needs.  Quilt book authors have different opinions on the sizes of quilts for different standard bed sizes.  Sizes will vary due to blocks.

Below are some numbers for you to compare. These are guidelines only!  If you have a quilt to donate that is a different size and you aren't sure, contact Cynthia Allen.  Different groups use different size quilts.

Crib size: 40x54, 42x59, 44x56,      Twin size: 71x88, 69x86, 66x90,     lap size: 36-40x36-45

Receiving blankets - flannel only, sizes 35" sq. or 42" sq. No smaller than 35" and no larger than 42", please. These can be a single piece just serged around the edges if you wish.

Premie Quilts - The small quilts help support and comfort the babies when being held by their parents.  Each quilt stays with the baby and many parents keep the quilts as a keepsake.  So throughout this year we would encourage everyone to remember these precious gifts from our Heavenly Father.  *Remember to use soft colors and each quilt should be 30 by 36 inches or 36 inches square.

Bears - We have added stuffed bears to projects.  Small bears [Minkee bears] are great size for the Layette project.  Larger bears will find other homes.  Below are links to bear patterns.  The larger bear requires sewing knowledge with assembly of all the pieces.  The smaller bear is flat and can be loosely or fully stuffed.

The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program is established to advocate for abused children in the Juvenile Court process - Our quilts bring comfort to those who might otherwise not feel they have anyone that cares about their welfare.  To learn more about this program or for information, see their website  http://www.cccocasa.org  or phone 925-256-7284.

Wrap-a-Smile is a non profit program where quilts are donated to children with Cleft Lip/Palate repair.  Physician’s volunteer their services in remote poverty stricken areas of the world and at the time of their surgery the children are provided with a quilt.  Sizes for "Wrap-a-Smile" are finished size 38-40” wide by 48-60” long, no wider than 40”. They must be machine quilted.  Karen Mahshi is the coordinator with the Concord/Diablo Rotary Wrap-a-Smile program. She may be contacted for specifics of material, batting, thread and quilting for this project. Any questions you may contact her at 925-681-1551 or quiltedherb@earthlink.net
